RECEPTION PHASE
~GRADE RRR-GradeR~

Anchor 2

In the Reception Phase we welcome children from Grade RRR (5 Years) and children who will be turning 6 anytime from 1 January to 31 December of that year.

Our premises are situated in Queenswood, Moot suburbs, within beautiful surroundings, where your child can learn in a carefree and safe environment.

Educators of this age build safe bridges between home and school and lay a strong foundation upon which all further learning will stand.

It is important to note that, while many schools have fallen into the trap of formalising their reception year with uniforms, pen and paper work and formal reading instruction, we remain true to the well-documented evidence that the best way for young children to learn is through play.

Our Play is meticulously planned, well designed and scaffolded. It has definite planned outcomes and is not merely a way to pass the time.

As an alternative to sitting behind a desk and practising how to write the letter "p" on a worksheet, our learners would dress up in the "pizza corner" and take "orders" from their customers by writing six "p's" for the order of six pizzas. This would then double up as a maths lesson too, when they add up the prices for the customer to pay.

It is easy to guess which learner enjoyed their learning the most. Enjoying the process of learning, makes the learners want more of it.

Activities are varied and challenging and problem-solving skills enjoy high priority. Literacy, Numeracy, and Life Skills are nurtured through creative activities, Bible lessons, music, and developmental play, both indoors and outdoors.

Music

Music plays an integral part in our school

St. Augustine once said that when we sing, we pray twice.  At Loreto, we enjoy our singing.  This is evident in our two school choirs; Junior Choir and Senior Choir that participate in various festivals and Eisteddfods during the year. The entire school is also involved in singing at assemblies and Masses and are accompanied by our own guitarists and other musicians. These musicians are learners at our school who take private music lessons at school. All learners participate in class music lessons. The music teachers at the school offer private violin, flute, recorder, drumming, trumpet, guitar, ukulele, and piano lessons.  We also have Junior and Senior ensemble, a drumming ensemble, as well as a marimba ensemble. We have already produced 5 CDs to celebrate the musical life of our school.
